Fewer ATMs but more office space: New Arlington Heights Chase Bank will be modern ‘advice center’
An Arlington Heights Chase Bank branch plans to relocate across the street and shrink its footprint amid a shift from the long teller lines of the past into modern “advice centers.”
Chase will build a 5,941-square-foot branch with two drive-through lanes at 585 E. Palatine Road, after tearing down a 40-year-old, 11,000-square-foot building that formerly housed an AT&T store.
The new bank within the Town & Country Shopping Center will replace the existing branch in the Northpoint Shopping Center, where Chase leases space. There will be one less ATM drive-through lane (from three to two), but more private offices, conference rooms and meeting spaces intended for banking consultations with customers.
“This represents an investment into our network — transforming our network, optimizing it and bringing us into the future,” said Jonathan Krissoff, market director of real estate for JPMorgan Chase.
The proposed building would feature a modern design with green features, such as timber frame construction as opposed to steel, and solar panels on the roof. Stormwater runoff is designed to pass through a rain garden, then enter an underground vault beneath the drive aisles and 29-space parking lot.
At the request of village staff, the bank incorporated additional shade trees along Rand Road, a focal feature at the corner of Rand and Palatine roads, and a 10-foot multi-use bike path/sidewalk. Though banks are permitted uses in an area zoned for business, the drive-through requires review by village trustees for a special use permit, which they approved this week.
Construction is set to begin in the spring and be complete by fall.
