Aurora man charged with brandishing gun at Metra station

An 18-year-old Aurora man has been charged with armed violence after brandishing a handgun in the Aurora Transportation Center Saturday evening, authorities said in a news release.

Eliahias Martinez held a gun in his hand and pointed it at several people in the Metra train and Pace bus station at 233 N. Broadway, according to police. He also struck another man with his hands and gun before police arrived, according to the release.

Aurora police were dispatched shortly after 7:30 p.m. and arrested Martinez after finding him near the men’s restroom with the gun on him, police said.

In addition to the armed violence charge, the Kane County state’s attorney’s office has charged Martinez with aggravated battery in a public place, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with laser attached to firearm, and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon -- all felonies.

Martinez is being held in Kane County jail before a pretrial hearing.
