Chamber Music on the Fox sets rescheduled Black Tulip concert featuring 17th- and 18th-century female composers
The Chamber Music on the Fox concert featuring the multinational, early music ensemble Black Tulip that had been scheduled for January will now take place on Monday, March 4, at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles.
“Court, Convent & Stage: Redefining the Early Modern Woman” features works by Italian composers Francesca Caccini, Isabella Leonarda and Barbara Strozzi, and French composer Élisabeth Jacquet De-la Guerre, as well as other female composers of this period.
The program is named for the few places where women composers could find a creative outlet in a male-dominated era.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the church, 307 Cedar Ave.
Tickets, which are $25 for in-person or virtual viewing, are available at www.chambermusiconthefox.org. Students with a valid student ID qualify for $15 in-person concert tickets.
Those who had tickets to the January dates can:

The multinational ensemble features soprano Josefien Stoppelenburg from the Netherlands, Mirja Lorenz from Germany on recorders, as well as Phillip W. Serna on violas da gamba, and Joel Spears on lutes and theorbo from the U.S.
“Black Tulip is very excited to perform for Chamber Music on the Fox,” Stoppelenburg said. “The Baroque music we perform was written for exactly these kinds of venues that celebrate a direct connection with the audience, musical intimacy, and exciting storytelling through music.”
Black Tulip’s innovative programming often immerses audiences in vivid and dynamic multimedia experiences, combining dramatic cantatas, songs for solo voice and obbligato instruments, and virtuosic instrumental works for recorders, viols, lutes, and theorbo alongside historical lectures incorporating projected artwork to depict the complex cultural lives of composers and audiences of the 17th and 18th centuries.
