Man arrested after barricading himself in Schaumburg during investigation into shots fired

Charges are pending against a man in custody after barricading himself in a Schaumburg apartment Thursday night while police investigated a report of gunshots, authorities said.

The investigation and arrest were assisted by a multi-jurisdictional team from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System.

About 8:20 p.m., Schaumburg officers responded to a noise complaint on the 1200 block of Cambia Drive, later hearing that several gunshots had been fired by one man.

Though no one was injured, the suspect refused to respond to police requests for his participation in their investigation after he retreated to an apartment.

The man ultimately surrendered about 12:45 a.m. Friday, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate the incident involved people who knew each other and there is no ongoing threat in the area.
