Eli Skinner NSDAR names Aaron Phillips Outstanding Teacher in American History

The Eli Skinner Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), has named Aaron Phillips as the 2024 Outstanding Teacher of American History.

Phillips is the Social Studies department chairman at Schaumburg High School, with enormous influence on the minds and behaviors of local youth for over 20 years.

Throughout his career he has taught not only American History, but also Civics, World History, AP European History, Multicultural Perspectives, World Geography, Economics and U.S. Government. He is eminently qualified as a learned educator with a doctoral degree in curriculum leadership, and teaching certifications at both at the state and national levels.

His accomplishments include leading the efforts to re-imagine the Civic Education Project for the township to better align the curriculum to the state civics mandate, collaborating with other district leaders in the development of curriculum practices (e.g., the Controversial Issues Framework), and in particular, leading special delegations of students to present their research to Illinois state legislators and local community leaders.

In addition to Phillips accomplishments and responsibilities, it was his philosophy toward education that first attracted the attention of the Eli Skinner Chapter. He is dedicated to helping students understand how the lessons of history are essential to becoming informed and engaged citizens. As department chairman, he mentors all 15 faculty in the same enlightened, educational philosophy.

Eli Skinner was honored to name Phillips to this prestigious award.
