The letter from Tonia Khouri regarding immigration discusses many relevant issues that concern everyone. I believe that all in the U.S. would like to see a solution to our current immigration problem. I agree with her that “our responsibility for the well-being and future of our children, as well as the community, transcends political boundaries.”

She puts all the blame for this issue on President Biden and calls for the support of Republican candidates who “offer practical solutions.” Does she not realize that both Republicans and Democrats crafted a bill that offered some solutions to this issue? It took months of negotiation and was finally ready for review. It is the very same Republicans, not President Biden, who then refused to even take a vote on this bill. House Rep. Mike Johnson stated that it was “DOA” before his members even had a chance to review it.

Trump let the senators know that he was against the bill and it might hurt his chances for re election, so they also decided not to vote on it. I don't see how more Republicans who stall on sensible legislation or refuse to even take a vote will bring better solutions.

To blame Biden and then not even take a vote on a bill that won't solve all the issues but could have made a significant difference is complete hypocrisy. I don't think that Biden has had effective policies regarding immigration, but he at least is willing to listen and to negotiate. The Republicans blindly follow Trump and do whatever damaging thing he tells them to do.

If the Republicans in the current Congress had given this bill a fair vote, then I would have agreed with the chairman of the Naperville Township Republican Organization, n but they didn't. Immigration failure is now their doing.
