A vacant Buffalo Grove home that had been left uninhabitable from a previous fire burst into flames Wednesday evening, resulting in no injuries but causing damage to the home and adjacent homes, firefighters said.

The fire is still under investigation.

Buffalo Grove firefighters initially responded at 10:30 p.m. to the area of Silver Linden Lane. But as fire companies were on the way, flames appeared in the distance, and firefighters were redirected to the correct location, 2100 block of Brandywyn Lane.

Firefighters arriving on the scene found the entire second floor of the two-story house fully engulfed in flames, with heat impacting neighboring houses on both sides.

Crews extinguished the fire while protecting neighboring homes from the rapidly spreading blaze. They were able to put it out in about 30 minutes, with the help of neighboring departments.

Damage to the two-story home included a partial collapse of the second floor. Firefighters said the house had been vacant and under repair since August 2022, when a fire caused by candles left burning in the home rendered it uninhabitable.
