Spring cleaning? Get rid of household items at Wheaton ‘recycling extravaganza’

Wheaton’s “recycling extravaganza” returns to the DuPage County Fairgrounds this month, just in time for spring cleaning.

The drive-through event will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 13 at the fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road.

SCARCE, one of the event partners, will collect holiday lights, Brita filters, books, old musical instruments and other household items. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office will accept EpiPens, medications, and syringes. People also can donate eyeglasses, hearing aids and sunglasses to the Wheaton Lions Club.

For a full list of acceptable items, visit wheaton.il.us.

The city hosts the event in partnership with the Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission, SCARCE, DuPage County, the DuPage Sheriff’s Office, eWorks, Wheaton Lions Club, Working Bikes, Soccer Gear for Zambia, Melba’s Place, AmeriGas, Interstate Battery and Earth Paint.
