Public funds and sports stadiums

Many kudos to Sports Editor Orrin Schwarz for his commentary this morning, in which he points out the lunacy in having public funds (your tax dollars) being used to build stadiums for billionaire owners. Maybe if you could bring your property tax bill or sales receipts to a game and get some $14 beers and $10 cokes for free, it might be a little more palatable. But it’s not. If you want to read some excellent pieces on how the taxpayers do not benefit from such financing, go to www.heartland.org (The Heartland Institute, headquartered in Arlington Heights) and you will find articles.
