There are no one-day dictators
Seriously, Ken Reem? (Your Views column, April 4) You think it’s OK for Donald Trump to assert that he wants to be a dictator, as long as it’s only on “Day One?” A dictator is a dictator — period. It is anathema to American ideals.
Trump has openly vowed weaponize the government against his political opponents. To do this, he will replace career civil servants with loyalists who will do his bidding without question. His current consolidation of power within the GOP is a clear example of what we can expect. There won’t be a Mike Pence to save us the next time.
You say President Biden is disgusting. You’re entitled to your opinion. But at least we know Joe Biden respects the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law. It is undeniable, on the other hand, that Donald Trump covets absolute power and will do anything to obtain and hold onto it, including inciting an insurrection to prevent the peaceful constitutional transfer of power in a free and fair election that he legitimately lost.
Be careful what you wish for. You may not be so free to express contrary opinions under a Trump presidency.
