Suburban Skyview: Prairie Lakes Resort to reopen in former Bloomingdale hotel

Little has changed to the exterior of the former Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale since Chicago-based owners Maverick Hotels and Restaurants announced it’s renovating the complex. Removing carpeting, old furniture and fixtures is first up on the list. It will be renamed Prairie Lakes Resort.

The resort’s six-story main building is unique and was imagined by Barrington architect Don Erickson. The Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired design included waterfalls, rock formations and a diamond-shaped roof with honeycomb-like glass ceiling. The resort closed in March 2021, with the new owners taking possession in December 2021. Sixty suites and 241 guest rooms will be offered.

The village purchased the 27-hole golf course and 15 additional acres along Schick Road shortly after plans to build homes on the property was abandoned in 2019. The course will be renovated and reopened at some point. The hotel opened in the 1980s and hosted countless golf outings, celebrity fundraisers and conventions.
