Proposed South Barrington budget includes cash for road repairs, conservancy

Money for road repairs and improvements at the South Barrington Conservancy is included in the village’s proposed $13 million budget for the 2025 fiscal year.

The village board is scheduled to vote on the plan Thursday night. The fiscal year began May 1.

The proposed budget is slightly leaner than the previous fiscal year’s, which predicted nearly $13.1 million in spending.

Officials expect to spend about $508,000 on road resurfacing and related work, Mayor Paula McCombie said in an email. Watch for construction crews on Beacon Hill Drive, Windsor Court and a section of Willow Bay Drive.

Additionally, $100,000 is set aside for work at the conservancy, which consists of 35 acres of prairie and wetland along the west side of Bartlett Road near Bridges Drive.

Money also is set aside for staff salaries and benefits and assorted purchases, such as a new pump at the village water plant, McCombie said. That’s expected to cost $150,000, she said.

Revenue from taxes, fees and other sources is expected to approach $12.3 million in the new fiscal year, McCombie said. That’s up from the previous fiscal year’s budgeted estimate of nearly $11.9 million.

McCombie attributed the increase to favorable interest rates and anticipated growth in traditional revenues.

Officials will cover the roughly $760,000 projected gap between spending and revenue with existing village funds, McCombie said.

Thursday’s board meeting is set for 7 p.m. at village hall, 30 S. Barrington Road.
