The Bienemanns to take the stage at Highland Avenue Coffeehouse May 19

The cutting-edge acoustic duo Robin and Jenny Bienemann will take center stage at the Highland Avenue Coffeehouse on Sunday, May 19. A husband-and-wife duo, the Bienemanns are both singer-songwriters and fine instrumentalists.

By turns hilarious and heartfelt, this couple melds original and traditional music with an elegant hint of jazz. Robin's wild guitar stylings harken back to the earliest forms of jazz, blues and country guitar. Jenny’s voice and guitar playing evokes comparisons to Joni Mitchell and Rickie Lee Jones.

Both write songs that are celebrations of modern life in all of its wonderful, strange and hilarious beauty, garnering airplay on National Public Radio, Dr. Demento, and “The Midnight Special” on Chicago’s WFMT.

The Highland Avenue Coffeehouse offers folk music, light refreshments, and friendly people.

The concert, which is open to the community, will begin at 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren, 783 W. Highland Ave. in Elgin. There is no cover charge; donations are appreciated. For information, call (847) 741-5124 or go to www.hacob.org.
