Hanover Township to hold May 18 Kite Festival

Hanover Township’s free Kite Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 18, at the Barrington Road Pond Forest Preserve, located on Barrington Road, south of West Higgins Road, in Hoffman Estates. The festival is in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honors the origin of kites.

Event activities include kite assembly and kite flying for attendees, as well as performances by Chicago Kite who will showcase their spectacular large kites in the sky throughout the event.

Brookfield Zoo Chicago’s Animal Ambassador Program will also be on-site with a surprise animal visitor.

During the event, kids can explore Crabtree Nature Center’s interactive display of local, natural artifacts. Free popcorn, snow cones and a bounce house will also be available.

The Kite Festival is co-sponsored by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison.
