Delays overcome, pub-style HopScotch restaurant plans June groundbreaking in Schaumburg

Approved 14 months ago, HopScotch restaurant has received the financial security bond it needs to apply for a building permit and start construction on the last undeveloped site in Schaumburg’s Town Square. Developer Dipak Lodhia said his goal is to break ground on the 1.7-acre lot at 40 S. Roselle Road, next to Oberweis, by the end of June and open about a year later.

Indoor pickleball center coming to Randhurst Commons in Mount Prospect

The Picklr, a national chain of indoor pickleball facilities, plans to open a new location later this year at Mount Prospect’s Randhurst Commons Shopping Center. Based in Kaysville, Utah, The Picklr opened a location in Naperville in March, and is planning others in Mundelein and Villa Park.

Bien Trucha’s new Wheaton restaurant to dish up ‘homey’ style of tacos

A lot of meaning is packed into the catchy name of the upcoming Wheaton restaurant from the owners of the Bien Trucha taqueria in Geneva. The “Chilango” in Sweetchilango is Mexican slang for someone from Mexico City. Julio Cano was born and raised there, as were most of his business partners.

St. Charles back to square one on redevelopment of former police building

St. Charles officials are circling back to the possible redevelopment of the former police department site at 10 State Ave. The city-owned property has been vacant since September 2019, when the department’s new police station opened at 1515 W. Main St.

Geneva Commons shopping center has new owner

Lamar Companies now lists Geneva Commons, which first opened in 2002, as one of its shopping centers, according to its website, lamarco.com. LaSalle Investment Management, the previous owner of Geneva Commons, reportedly sold it to Lamar, based in New Jersey and Colorado.

Six Chicago-area Kohl’s stores to offer Babies ‘R’ Us experience

Six Kohl’s stores in the Chicago area, including in Batavia and Elmhurst, will be getting a Babies “R” Us experience this year, company officials said. These stores, including at 303 S. Route 83, Elmhurst, and 251 N. Randall Road, Batavia, are among the first 200 to feature this curated assortment.

Crystal Lake Brewing takes home international competition award, celebrates 10 years

Crystal Lake Brewing has a lot to celebrate this year as it took home an award from the World Beer Cup and marks 10 years in the business. The brewery won the bronze medal for its Frozen Over beer in the brown porter category at this year’s World Beer Cup last month in Las Vegas. There were 51 entries across the world for the category.
