Hoffman Estates High’s hawk gets makeover as 50th anniversary year ends

A makeover for longtime mascot Hercules the Hawk was revealed Wednesday during the final student assembly of Hoffman Estates High School’s 50th anniversary year.

The assembly began with a collection for a time capsule to be opened in 2074, culminating with the old Hercules’ head — as he jokingly was “revealed” to be the school’s webmaster, Jeff Bird.

The four other school mascots of Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 then preceded the debut of the new-look Hercules. Like them, he now bears a friendlier appearance, as well as the school’s blue and orange colors.

Making a final appearance in the new costume was the school’s most recent “real” Hercules, revealed to be graduating senior Rachel Wickey.
