Sen. Duckworth honored for bipartisan efforts

U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a Hoffman Estates Democrat, has been honored by the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress for her efforts to pursue bipartisan legislation.

Duckworth, who formerly served in the U.S. House as the representative for Illinois’ 8th District, received the Statesmanship Award. So did Republican U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska, with whom Duckworth has partnered with on numerous projects.

Duckworth acknowledged she and Sullivan aren’t going to agree on every issue but said she knows she can speak with him when something she cares deeply about arises.

“Because that’s how things get done,” Duckworth said. “Not through angry quips on Twitter.”
