Daily Herald appoints new corporate VPs, secretary
The Daily Herald Media Group named Executive Editor Lisa Miner and Director of Operations Don Stamper vice presidents at Thursday’s board meeting.
In addition, Kristine Wilson was named corporate secretary, promoted from assistant corporate secretary.
“These three corporate executives have a broad range of responsibilities that match their experience,” said Doug Ray, CEO, publisher and chairman. “Don’s experience in the production department and now in circulation is especially important, as the structural changes in the business require a great deal of knowledge and skill. Lisa has been a mainstay in the editorial department for years and she has grown through increasingly responsible management positions to become our newsroom’s top editor.
“Kristine works interdepartmentally and serves as the board of directors’ liaison. Her administrative role has developed through the years to become corporate secretary. We are fortunate to have such a talented group of managers whose roles will position the company for a bright future,” Ray said.
Miner has spent four decades at the Herald, joining in 1984 as a city staff reporter. She was serving as managing editor before being appointed the newspaper’s executive editor, replacing Jim Baumann, who retired May 13.
Miner earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she served as editor of the Daily Illini. Before joining the Daily Herald, she interned at the Arizona Daily Star and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
“I am humbled and honored by this appointment, and I am grateful for the support and acknowledgment from the company and board of directors,” Miner said about being tapped as a vice president. “I have devoted my career to local journalism, and I am deeply touched by the recognition.”
Stamper has more than 34 years of production and circulation experience. He joined Paddock Publications in 2014 as a packaging operations manager and was promoted to production director in 2016. He was named director of operations in January.
He previously worked for the Daily Southtown and Liberty Group Publishing, which sold to GateHouse Media in 2009. Shaw Media then purchased the Chicago group from GateHouse. Stamper worked under Shaw Media from 2013 to 2014. He studied at the College of DuPage.
“I was shocked when the announcement came up in the board meeting,” Stamper said Thursday. “I am so appreciative for the confidence the Paddock family and the administration has had in me, and cannot describe the feeling of satisfaction knowing your hard work is noticed and acknowledged. This truly is a great group to be associated with and I am so thankful for that.”
Wilson joined the Herald in November 2010 when it acquired the Business Ledger. Since then, she has performed a variety of duties, most recently at the corporate level. She earned a journalism degree from the University of Iowa.
