Wheeling Township moves forward to strengthen mental health services, support

As part of the movement to identify any gaps or deficits in mental health services and/or resources for community members, Wheeling Township, in partnership with Harper Business Solutions, will be hosting Stakeholder Engagement Sessions — both in person and virtually — the week of May 20-24. These sessions are part of a larger Community Needs Assessment that researchers at Harper, who specialize in such work, are assisting the township.

The goal and purpose of the Stakeholder Engagement Sessions is to collaboratively bring together residents, individuals who represent mental health service providers, and community leaders throughout the township. They are seeking individuals who are interested in sharing insights on current services available, and any service gaps or barriers individuals could experience if they are in need of mental health support.

“The township is thrilled to be moving to this phase of the Community Needs Assessment, which will bring together a strong cross-section of our community members to help us determine how mental health services can be strengthened and how the township can help,” said Wheeling Township Supervisor Kathy Penner. “We look forward to Harper's final report which will serve as a guide for the Mental Health Board moving forward — and that will include research and data to support any initiatives that will bolster mental health service offerings for those who need them.”

Those who would like to participate in the Stakeholder Engagement Sessions can express their interest by completing the form provided in the QR Code of the WT Mental Health Board Focus Group flyer. Once the form is completed, a Harper Business Solutions Research assistant will reach out. Individuals will be asked qualifying questions to confirm their participation in these sessions aligns with the study objectives, and if they do, the researcher will schedule individuals for either focus groups, panel discussions, or one-on-one interviews based on experience and input needed for various mental health topics.

The township appreciates community members who are willing to be involved in this important process, that will help to determine the current status of service delivery to individuals facing mental health challenges, as well as what potential new resources or service could either be made available, or promoted more comprehensively to ensure community members are aware that they already exist.

If you have any questions about Stakeholder Engagement related to the Mental Health Board, or would like more information on programs or services — for yourself or someone you know — please call the township at (847) 259-7730.

Through its dedication to provide services to residents, whether by helping them maintain their independence, sustain their health, or offering critical assistance during times of need, Wheeling Township continues to make a significant difference in the community … as it has since 1850.
