Northbrook Park District invites community to share input on West Park amenities

The Northbrook community is invited to share its thoughts about potential improvements to West Park, a 24-acre park located behind the Northbrook Sports Center.

The Northbrook Park District is considering applying for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to help fund the potential renovation of West Park, 1730 Pfingsten Road, in Northbrook.

As part of this planning, the park district wants to ensure that obtaining the community’s feedback is central to the process.

West Park features seasonal soccer fields, two baseball fields, a softball field, two sand volleyball courts, three tennis courts, a playground, a drinking fountain and a walking path.

“West Park’s equipment and playground have reached the end of their useful life, and as we move to refresh those amenities, we are taking the opportunity to examine the park as a whole,” Northbrook Park District Executive Director Chris Leiner said. “We invite neighbors and park users to share their thoughts about the park’s amenities and their usage, and we look forward to getting their input.”

The public can participate in the process in two ways:

• Complete the West Park survey at nbparks.co/westpark by June 14.

• Attend a community meeting open to the public from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, in the Community Room of the Northbrook Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road. The meeting will include focused questions, brainstorming, discussion and identification of preferences. Please visit nbparks.co/westpark or call (847) 291-2960 for information.

Established in 1927, the mission of the Northbrook Park District is to enhance the community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and financial stewardship.
