Northern Illinois Food Bank Receives $70,000 donation from Meijer to help fight hunger in North Chicago

Northern Illinois Food Bank has announced that it received a $70,000 donation from Meijer. The donation is a part of Meijer’s $2 million donation to 30 key food bank partners to help battle hunger in its local communities. The awarded funds will be used to support the Food Bank’s general operating costs and work in the fight against hunger.

Meijer retailer serves customers at more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, neighborhood markets and express locations throughout the Midwest. The retailer donates at least 6 percent of its profit annually to strengthen its communities. These focused donations will create a larger impact helping the food banks to better meet the needs of those they serve in communities across the Midwest.

“We are so grateful for Northern Illinois Food Bank and its work in distributing healthy food to hungry families in the North Chicago area. Therefore, on behalf of Meijer, we are pleased to make a $70,000 donation to help advance your important efforts,” said Melissa Conway, Director of Community Partnerships and Giving at Meijer.

“Northern Illinois Food Bank’s network serves over 500,000 neighbor a month throughout 13 counties in rural and suburban Northern Illinois, thanks to the support of generous partners like Meijer,” said Maeven Sipes, Chief Philanthropy Officer at Northern Illinois Food Bank. “The funds will help us continue to provide neighbors experiencing food-insecurity access to the nutritious and healthy food they need to thrive.”
