Jehovah’s Witnesses’ three-day event in Romeoville promises only ‘Good News’
One of the largest organizers of global conventions will once again draw thousands to Romeoville
It’s summertime, and the Amaro family could be headed to a theme park, beach or even to visit relatives for the weekend. Instead, Anthony and Maria Amaro and their two children are eagerly preparing to attend a three-day convention that promises to feature only good news.
“It's more than just a convention,” said Anthony Amaro of Buffalo Grove. “It's an opportunity as a family to escape the daily stresses of life and focus on spiritual blessings. We also look forward to an encouraging weekend with our friends and getting to catch up and share experiences with each other in a loving environment.”
Known as one of the largest convention organizations in the world, Jehovah’s Witnesses are returning to the Romeoville Assembly Hall in Romeoville, for their annual three-day event. In 2023, more than 6,000 of these conventions were held globally and attended by nearly 13 million people.
In a world where a steady stream of bad news is now the norm, the theme for the Witnesses’ 2024 convention series is “Declare the Good News!”
Beginning the weekend of May 24-26, 2024, the free event is expected to draw more than 35,000 visitors to Romeoville over the course of 14 weekends — fueling the city’s economy with spending at local stores, hotels and restaurants.
“We are very happy to be back in Romeoville for our convention this year,” said Javier Cano, a local spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses. Not only does he also look forward to seeing friends and family, but he says, “These conventions are a highlight of the summer because it’s a time to rejoice with those from our community who make an effort to attend and benefit from the program.”
The “Declare the Good News!” convention program will present Bible-based videos, talks and interviews, including a two-part video drama depicting the Gospels’ record of events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ on Friday and Saturday morning, as well as a live baptism on Saturday. On Sunday, the featured talk “Why We Don’t Fear Bad News” will help attendees learn why millions have found reasons to feel secure and confident despite world conditions.
Prior to each convention, local congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses will engage in a campaign to distribute invitations to community members for this free event. Admission is open to the public, and no collections are taken.
