American Wind Band to host a ‘Prelude to Summer’ free outdoor concert

On Saturday, June 1, the American Wind Band presents a free outdoor concert “Prelude to Summer” at 3 p.m. on the west side of the American Legion Post 80, 4000 Saratoga Ave. in Downers Grove.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, umbrella for shade, sunscreen, and bug spray. Kindly leave pets at home. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Legion Hall.

The directors have chosen a variety of music that includes marches, John Williams “Olympic Fanfare and Theme,” Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “1812” Overture, and other enjoyable selections.

A special alumni band salute to Paul Tolosko, former band director at Proviso West High School is planned.

The American Wind Band, which is based in Downers Grove, promotes the understanding and appreciation of concert band literature through performance for the enjoyment of all in attendance. Many thanks to the American Legion Post 80 for hosting the concert.

The band will resume rehearsals on the Tuesday, following Labor Day at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, 1032 Maple Ave. New members are welcome; auditions are not required.
