Submit works inspired by local landscape to Art of the Land show

Art, music, friends and fun — local artists and artisans are invited to submit works inspired by the local landscape for The Land Conservancy of McHenry County’s 16th annual Art of the Land art show and fundraiser.

The event takes place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28, at the Starline Factory in Harvard.

Since 2009, Art of the Land has raised more than $200,000 to support TLC’s land preservation work in McHenry County.

It keeps 30% of the proceeds from art sold, with 70% of proceeds to the artist.

Artists’ work must be consistent with the theme of “art that reflects and is inspired by the local landscape and all that it provides.”

Accepted mediums include original artwork, painting, drawing and other hanging art, photography, limited edition prints, ceramics, glass, sculptural pieces, basketry, fiber, paper, metal and wood. The Best of Show award is $250, and second and third place are $100 each.

There is a jury fee of $25 to submit up to five pieces of work as an artist. Artwork will be judged based on the best representation of the theme of the event. Entries will be selected from images sent to TLC, and all entries must be for sale at the show.

There is no fee for artisans to apply to the show. Accepted artisans will pay a booth fee of $150.

In addition, TLC is including a youth art category in order to recognize the talents of the many school-aged and home-schooled artists in the region. Cash prizes will be awarded to the works of art judged Best in Show in each age category. All youth art will also be included in People’s Choice voting at the show. One winner will be chosen Friday and one winner will be chosen Saturday.

A youth artist is considered to be age 5-18 and enrolled in elementary, middle school, high school, or is home-schooled. Youth artists can submit up to three pieces of art for $10.

The deadline to submit work for Art of the Land is Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024. Entries timestamped after this date will not be accepted into the show.
