No one hurt in minor bus collision at Wheeling High

No one was hurt Thursday afternoon when a vehicle driven by a Wheeling High School student collided with a school bus on campus, authorities said.

The collision, which Wheeling police said was minor, occurred at about 12:55 p.m. after classes were let out for the day. Classes ended earlier than usual because of a special schedule for final exams, Principal Bradford Hubbard said in a letter to families and employees shared on social media.

A student backing out of a parking spot in the rear lot at the school, 900 S. Elmhurst Road, hit the bus. Students aboard the bus at the time were checked out by emergency personnel and allowed to head home on the bus, Hubbard said. School officials notified families of the collision, too, he said.

The crash occurred at roughly the same time as a physical confrontation between students just north of the school along Elmhurst Road, police said. The two incidents weren’t related.
