Global Arts Festival to feature music, dance and crafts

The annual Arts in Bartlett Global Arts Festival returns on June 8-9.

The eighth annual event will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Jim Jensen Pavilion, 620 W. Stearns Road.

This is a free community event celebrating cultural diversity and values designed to broaden knowledge, encourage acceptance and grow unity.

This year’s festival will feature local groups performing culturally significant dance routines, playing unique musical instruments and singing traditional ethnic songs.

There also will be family-oriented lawn games, crafts and activities; vendor booths filled with diverse wares and artists representing world cultures; and ethnic foods and beverages

On Saturday, it will open with the world flags and VIP welcome at 11 a.m., followed by Grupo Folklorico Quetzal at 11:15 a.m. Lisa’s School of Dance will perform at 12:15 p.m. The Arts in Bartlett scholarship winner Kiera Moore will be honored at 12:45 p.m.

At 1 p.m., Mambo All Stars Trio will perform, followed by HAKKA & Bartlett Community Choir at 2 p.m. The Vest Dance Troupe, featuring music from Germany, Brazil and India, will be featured at 2:30 p.m., with Guitarra Azul at 4 p.m.

On Sunday, the stage will open with Craig Elliott at 11 a.m., followed by Trio Latino Mariachi at noon. At 1 p.m., it will be Academia de Danza Aztlan dance - Mexico, and at 2 p.m., Devaki Janakiraman’s Indian Classical & Folk Dances. At 2:30 p.m., enjoy Chicago Cossacks Ukrainian & Romani Folk Music & Dance. Marina Menconi will perform American folk music at 3:30 p.m. The fest will wrap up with the A Train Jazz Combo at 4 p.m.
