Glen Ellyn Historical Society’s Vintage Auto Show renames best of show award
The Glen Ellyn Historical Society hosted a rainy but cheerful ninth annual Vintage Auto Fest.
The sun was shining early Saturday morning, June 1 as the vintage autos rolled in to the Glen Ellyn Historical Society’s designated parking places for the owners to park their vehicles and get ready for the event. Then the rain came!
Fortunately the owners had plastic coverings to protect the beautiful shiny bodies of the vintage autos. There was off-and-on rain but it did not discourage families from coming to view the featured vintage autos.
Executive board president Dan Anderson was the featured speaker in the Glen Ellyn History Center. He shared his knowledge of “Autos in Glen Ellyn in the Early Days.” The first car in Glen Ellyn was a 1903 Franklin. First cars in Glen Ellyn came on the streets in 1910. Executive director Jeff Anderson thanked the owners for braving the rain and participating in the vintage car event.
He promised that next year the society would plan an alternate date in case of rain.
The Best of Show Award is now titled the James Manak Best of Show Award. This honor was bestowed on the Manak family because of James’s eight years as the official chairman of this event.
The James Manak Award for 2024 was given to Bob Starinsky and his 1964 Studebaker Daytona Convertible.
