Unattended cooking blamed for Bartlett house fire

No injuries were reported after fire broke out Wednesday in a Bartlett home, authorities said.

Bartlett Fire Protection District firefighters responded at about 1:07 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a basement fire on the 400 block of Fairway Drive. They arrived three minutes later and had the blaze under control in less than five minutes, officials said.

Firefighters remained on the scene thereafter to ventilate smoke and gases and perform salvage, overhaul and investigative activities. The cause of the fire later was determined to be unattended cooking, officials said.

Damage estimates were not available, but the residence remained inhabitable, according to the fire department.

In all, 26 firefighters staffing four fire engines and two ladder trucks responded to the scene. Streamwood and Hanover Park firefighters assisted, and the Bartlett Police Department provided traffic control, officials said.
