Shepherd of the Prairie provides treats to local Huntley animal shelter

Members of the Community Outreach Committee of Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley celebrated National Pet Month in April by honoring the no-kill Animal House Shelter in Huntley that rescues and cares for homeless pets.

The shelter staff and volunteers enjoyed the pizza and desserts the committee brought to them. Pets also received treats and the shelter received other items donated by church members.

A wish list of needed items is available on the Animal House Shelter website at www.animalhouseshelter.com/wish-list/.

“Our committee has been doing these types of special recognition events for several years as we have focused on people that care for other people or places within our community,” said Tara Mackey, community outreach committee coordinator. “The workers at the Animal House were so delighted to have lunch brought in their honor for what they do everyday. I learned they can take in between 20 to 40 animals per week. I would never have imagined that number would be so significant.”

Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, located at 10805 Main Street, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Mark Boster and Pastor Ryan Mackey, has served the Huntley community for over 20 years. Visit www.sotp.org or Facebook at www.facebook.com/ShepherdofthePrairie/.
