Wintrust names new Naperville Bank & Trust market president as president Tom Miers retires

Wintrust has announced the promotion of Grant Cowen to market president for Naperville Bank & Trust, a branch of Wheaton Bank and Trust Company, N.A., a Wintrust Community Bank.

In his role, Cowen will work with a team of over 20 banking professionals to offer personal and commercial banking services, full trust, investment services, and mortgages. He has spent over 40 years in banking and had a 24-plus year career with West Suburban Bank (acquired by Old Second National Bank) in Naperville. Naperville Bank & Trust serves the community with three offices throughout the city.

The appointment follows the retirement of Tom Miers, who joined Naperville Bank & Trust in 2010 following a 28-year career with MidAmerica Bank. As the first Naperville Bank & Trust president, Miers created significant growth and development of Naperville market while serving in volunteer leaderships position with several community organizations including North Central College, Naperville YMCA and Naperville Development Partnership among others. He also spearheaded the recommissioning of the downtown Naperville post office to an office of Naperville Bank & Trust in the heart of the community.

Miers said Cowen is the perfect fit to succeed him as market president. “Grant has always been passionate about the community and truly understands the importance of building lasting relationships with customers and colleagues alike,” he said. “He has grown our customer base and brings a strong team with him to assist business banking customers. He will continue to serve his clients while committing to the continued development of Naperville Bank & Trust.”

Cowen calls Miers a great mentor. “Tom is driven to serve, and he has built a great culture that is welcoming and caring at Naperville Bank & Trust. I learn something every time I talk with him. He has put me in a great position to lead and continue to make a difference at Wintrust and in the Naperville community.”

Cowen is committed to instilling pride in his team and his customers. “We want to ensure that our customers believe that banking with Wintrust and Naperville Bank & Trust is a welcoming and highly valued experience,” he said.

Cowen is a graduate of Illinois State University and currently serves on the boards of directors of Naperville Elderly Homes Inc., Naperville Cemetery Association, and the Riverwalk Bicentennial Fund. Previously he has been a member of Naperville Sunrise Rotary and served on the boards of Naperville YMCA, Hesed House and Naperville Baseball Association. He and his wife, Mary, live in Naperville and have two children and a grandchild.
