Northern Kane County Chamber Women in Business awards five scholarships

The Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Dollars for Scholars recently awarded five $2,000 scholarships to local students who reside within the communities of Carpentersville, East Dundee, Gilberts, Sleepy Hollow, and West Dundee, or whose parents are employed within these communities.

A presentation of the scholarships was held at the annual scholarship awards luncheon on Friday, May 31, at Elgin Community College.

Recipients of the 2024 scholarships are:

• Lauren Braswell, Carpentersville — Dundee Crown High School, Class of 2024

• Keegan Connor, Algonquin — Harry D. Jacobs High School, Class of 22, currently attending Ball State University

• Camryn Cook, Algonquin — Harry D. Jacobs High School, Class of 2024

• Landon LaMarca, Pingree Grove — Hampshire High School, Class of 2023, currently attending Georgia Tech

• Livia LaMarca, Pingree Grove — Hampshire High School, Class of 2021, currently attending University of Pittsburgh.

“We are very pleased to have awarded $1,000 each to these very deserving students,” said Ann Meyer, Women in Business chair.

Candidate applications were evaluated equitably on all aspects including financial need and any special circumstances.

Scholarships are funded through the support of the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce and WIB members by fundraising efforts at the Women In Business monthly luncheons and the annual Holiday Luncheon held in December. WIB accepts corporate donation from area businesses and foundations.

As a chapter of Dollars for Scholars, a program of Scholarship America, the local chapter is a nonprofit tax exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization and therefore a publicly supported charity. Corporate donations to the NKCC Women in Business Dollars for Scholars chapter are fully tax deductible.
