The sad state of ‘Mount Trashmore’

There should be a garbage can on top of Mount Hoy, in Blackwell, more commonly (and aptly) known as Mount Trashmore. Climbing it every now and then to see the Willis Tower from all the way out here is one of my favorite things about living in DuPage County, and it’s disgusting to see what trash people leave behind every time. Chipotle napkins fluttering in the wind, empty water bottles glistening in the sun. There’s a blanket stuffed against the fence. These are the things you go to a park to get away from.

I invite you to climb to the top and look inside the drainage grate, and tell me how much fast food garbage is an acceptable amount to stuff inside what’s supposed to be a former landfill.

There ought to be a trash can at the summit, because relying on pure goodwill to take down what you bring up clearly isn’t working.
