Covenant Living at the Holmstad to host 46th annual bazaar Sept. 21

Karen Luebbers loves to spin yarn. In fact, she has been creating her own yarn from sheep’s wool for more than 40 years now. She is one of the many artisan residents at Covenant Living at the Holmstad who will be featured during the senior living community’s annual bazaar this September.

Luebbers has always been creatively resourceful since around the age of 12 when she made her own clothes. Later in life she started weaving but thought the cost of yarn was getting expensive. She was introduced to yarn spinning at the Wisconsin Spin-In where farmers bring their wool. And from that point on, she was hooked.

“I’m excited to demonstrate the yarn spinning process during the bazaar this year,” Luebbers said. “The process to spin yarn is slow and tedious, and I’m looking forward to answering any questions from those who might be interested in learning more.”

Luebbers will be set up next to the raffle table at the Bazaar. That is where attendees can purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win an aqua and multicolored knitted wrap made with yarn she spun.

“I love participating in the Holmstad Bazaar because it helps our resident community and the causes we love to support. Plus, as I volunteer, I get to meet other residents that I might not know.” Luebbers has lived at Covenant Living at the Holmstad for nine years.

The 46th annual bazaar is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to the public. Shoppers can anticipate finding something for everyone — from wood and needle crafts, designer knits, plants, quilts, baked goods, along with secondhand treasures such as jewelry, furniture, books, and household items. Some of the items for sale can be previewed at HolmstadBazaar.com.

“The popularity of our annual bazaar continues to grow. Last year, we had more than 700 shoppers from the greater community who came to take advantage of buying some of the great items for sale,” said Ed Lenertz, co-chair of the bazaar. “The funds that are raised support many initiatives, including our Benevolent Care Fund, scholarships and gifts for graduating high school employees, and helping some of our resident-run programs.”

“All of this is possible through the generosity of nearly 300 resident volunteers who give of their time and talent to make this happen. We can’t wait to welcome the public to this event in September,” added Dick Sackett, co-chair of the bazaar.

There also will be an opportunity for shoppers to win a cash drawing. For added convenience, shoppers may pay for items with credit cards, cash or checks.
