In celebration of the Palatine American Legion’s centennial year, Legion Post 690 is hosting a free Youth and Family Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 22, at Towne Square and at the American Legion, both located on Greeley Street and Palatine Road in downtown Palatine.

The event is a way to look back at 100 years of the nation’s and Palatine’s history. There will be historical military vehicles from The Veterans Garage on display. In partnership with the Palatine Historical Society, the Legion will have historical picture boards depicting highlights from the last 100 years in Palatine. As part of the event, the Legion will have a rock-climbing wall, an obstacle course and a bouncy house for children to enjoy.

“We're excited to offer Palatine a fun afternoon that presents a look back at the past 100 years of history in Palatine and the Palatine American Legion,” said Ed Behrens, Post 690 legionnaire. “It's a free family friendly event for all ages. We hope folks will come out and see what we put together right here in Towne Square.”

The American Legion Family consists of the American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) and Legion Auxiliary. The American Legion and Legion Auxiliary began in 1919, while the S.A.L. was created in 1932, as patriotic veteran’s organizations devoted to mutual helpfulness. These organizations are committed to advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to service members and veterans.
