Fox River Water Reclamation District board welcomes new trustee

The Fox River Water Reclamation District board recently appointed Nuhemi "Emi" Morales as a new trustee. She will serve a three-year term through May 2027, bringing her extensive experience and dedication to the district’s mission of protecting the water environment.

Born and raised in Elgin, Morales has deep roots in the community. She attended St. Joseph School and St. Edward High School before graduating from DePaul University with a degree in political science and Northern Illinois University College of Law. As a managing partner with Cohen, Donahue, and Morales, her areas of practice include real estate transactions and bankruptcies.

Morales is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Kane County Bar Association, and the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association. She also serves as president of the board at Centro de Informacion and as a commissioner for the Elgin Housing Authority.

Morales’ appointment has also been praised by local and state leaders. State Sen. Cristina Castro (D-Elgin) celebrated the historic nature of Morales’ appointment, stating, "As the first Latina to serve on the Fox River Water Reclamation District, Trustee Morales’ appointment is both historic and long overdue. I am confident she will bring her experience and determination to the board of trustees and help move the greater Fox Valley region forward. I applaud her appointment and look forward to her contributions to FRWRD’s important work building a resilient and sustainable future for our waterways and our communities."

State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) commented, "Emi Morales' dedication to her community and her legal expertise makes her an excellent addition to the FRWRD Board of Trustees.
