Man shot during late-night confrontation in Elgin

Elgin police are investigating a shooting late Sunday night that left a man hospitalized with a gunshot wound.

According to police, officers responded to the 600 block of Villa Street at about 11:36 p.m. for a reported shooting. They arrived to find a gunshot victim who was subsequently taken to a hospital, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicated there was an altercation prior to the shooting, according to police. Detectives from the Elgin Police Department’s Major Investigations Division continue to investigate.
