Gail Borden offering fun for families this summer

Summer is the time to have some family fun! Families will enjoy these free programs at Gail Borden Public Library. To learn more or check out other programs, visit www.gailborden.info.

Touch-a-Truck

Kids will be able to imagine themselves as firefighters, paramedics or other professionals when they climb on an Elgin fire engine, Elgin police car, school bus, ambulance and more! The fun will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 1, at the main library parking lot, 270 N. Grove Ave. in downtown Elgin. No registration is necessary.

Dinosaur Discovery!

Families will learn about dinosaur fossils and be able to touch many of the fossils in a special collection from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, at the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road, Elgin. “T-Rexplorers Presents: Dinosaur Discovery!” will showcase the fossils at the program. The company brings authentic dinosaur fossils to libraries, schools and other venues to encourage children to reconnect with nature and encourage an interest in earth sciences. Register for the program at gailborden.info/register, by calling (847) 429-4597 or in person at any library location.

Craft-o-Rama

Families with children, age 3 or older, are invited to stop by this drop-in program and make Hello Kitty-themed crafts to take home from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at the main library’s Sally Lee Rooms. All materials will be supplied.

Happy 150th Birthday

The Rakow Branch will host its own Gail Borden Library 150th anniversary celebration from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 24. This old-fashioned birthday party will feature games, cupcake decorating and more. No registration is needed to attend.

Children’s Flea Market

Children in second to eighth grades will have fun selling their items at this flea market from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, in the main library’s Meadows Community Rooms. People of all ages are welcome to buy. Nothing should be priced over $10 and only children’s items can be sold. Parental permission forms are available at the main library’s youth desk. gailborden.info/register, by calling (847) 429-4597 or in person at any library location.
