Naperville man charged with sex assault at DuPage Co. Crisis Center

A 34-year-old Naperville man was ordered detained Saturday after his arrest on accusations he sexually assaulted a woman at the DuPage County Crisis Center in Wheaton.

Lonny Bracey faces a charge of criminal sexual assault stemming from an investigation launched late Wednesday, when Wheaton police were dispatched to the center, 115 N. County Farm Road, to investigate the alleged assault.

The charge alleges the woman was awakened while being sexually assaulted by a man in her bedroom at the center, a 12-bed unit providing short-term crisis services to DuPage County residents on a voluntary basis, police said.

The man fled the room after a confrontation and the woman later was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to Wheaton police.

Police said their investigation identified Bracey as the suspect in the attack, and he was arrested Thursday morning. He was transported to the DuPage County jail Friday and appeared in court Saturday, when a judge ordered him held in custody while the case against him is pending.

“The allegations against Mr. Bracey are shocking,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in an announcement of the arrest and charge. “The violent attack on a patient in her room at a behavioral health residential facility will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law.”

Wheaton police Chief Princeton Youker credited his police officers, evidence technicians and detectives for the quick arrest.

“They were able to identify and arrest Mr. Bracey for the alleged sexual assault in under 48 hours,” he said.

Bracey is scheduled to return to court July 16, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.
