Swedish Days cools off just in time for Grand Parade

The scorching hot temperatures that greeted Geneva’s Swedish Days festival last week cooled off Sunday just in time for the grand finale.

The five-day celebration of the community’s Swedish heritage wrapped up with the Grand Parade featuring dozens of groups marching through the city’s downtown in weather some 20 degree cooler than they would have faced a few days earlier.

Leading the way was parade marshal Kristie Dienst, a Geneva native who last year won the Geneva Chamber of Commerce’s Wood Award for her lifelong dedication to serving the community.

“I’m honored to be chosen, and I am really touched to be sitting here,” she said. “This community and everyone who lives here is home to me.”
