St. Charles fireworks show returns to Langum Park July 4

Celebrate Independence Day in St. Charles with a fireworks show on Thursday, July 4. The fireworks will be launched at dark from Langum Park at Seventh and Madison avenues. It can be seen along the Fox River, with the best viewing locations downtown St. Charles, south of Main Street. Viewing spots include Mount St. Mary Park and the upper east side of Langum Park.

Bring your own tables, blankets and lawn chairs. Starting at 4 p.m., there will be Snack Zone Concessions at Langum Park and the food trucks for Kona Ice, Hippie Gourmet Grilled Cheese Co. and Kissed by Fire BBQ at Mount St. Mary (where they also will be Glow Zone novelty sales starting at 6 p.m.)

Musical entertainment will be 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at both locations.

Not sure where to watch the fireworks?

At noon on July 4, the St. Charles Park District will launch a red balloon in the sky above Langum Park. If you can see the balloon, you will have a great view of the fireworks at dark.

Road closures

St. Charles police officers and emergency management personnel will be at key locations on both the east and west side of the Fox River to help move vehicles around the temporary road closures.

The road closures will be in effect 15 minutes before the fireworks begin. Roads will reopen once pedestrians have safely exited the area.

Riverside Avenue will be closed from Spring Avenue to Deveroux Way. Follow the detour signs.

Prairie Street Bridge will be closed beginning 15 minutes before the fireworks begin, and open back up once the fireworks have ended.

The Indiana Street pedestrian bridge also will be closed.

For safety purposes, there will be no fireworks observation allowed on the fifth level of the westside parking deck.

South Seventh Avenue between Madison Avenue and Fern Avenue will be closed for a brief time, allowing pedestrians to safely exit from the east side of Langum Park.

South Second Street (Route 31) between Prairie and Mosedale streets will be closed for a brief time, allowing pedestrians to exit Mount St. Mary Park.

Parking restrictions

To accommodate the large volume of traffic, additional parking restrictions will be posted and are in effect on the following local streets:

• South Avenue from Riverside Avenue to Fifth Avenue

• Sixth Avenue from Adams Avenue to Riverside Avenue

• Madison Avenue from Sixth Avenue to Seventh Avenue and Seventh Avenue to Ninth Avenue

• Fern Avenue from Seventh Avenue to 10th Avenue

• 10th Avenue from Madison Avenue to Fern Avenue

• Edward Avenue from Seventh Avenue to Rita Avenue

• Moore Avenue from Riverside Avenue to Seventh Avenue

• Mosedale and Horne streets from Route 31 to Third St.

• Brownstone Drive, Limestone Drive, Cobblestone Drive, and Bluestone Drive.

Drivers should be aware that there will be heavy traffic before and after the fireworks display. Delays are to be expected and alternate routes of travel should be considered.
