High sports salaries are disservice to fans

While I have felt for many years that professional athletes are overpaid, it seems even more so lately. No matter how poorly they perform, they know it will not affect their income this year and probably not next year either.

I have always felt they all should be paid a base salary and have to earn the rest based on performance. Perhaps then they would make sure they keep in shape year-round as all professional athletes should be doing since their fans should be able to expect nothing but the best from them since they pay a lot to watch them perform, not to see them on the sidelines injured.

Most sports are extremely rough on the athletes' bodies, which is why keeping physically fit year-round is very important and that's why they should be doing just that. Their fans deserve that. After all it's very expensive for the fans to go to games.
