Teenager charged in Northbrook armed robberies

A Northbrook teenager is facing multiple armed robbery charges following an investigation into two holdups investigated by the Cook County sheriff’s office over the past week.

Devin McCahill, 18, was jailed following a detention hearing at the Cook County courthouse in Skokie Thursday.

Authorities said McCahill used social media apps designed to facilitate the purchasing, selling and trading of goods to set up meetings with individuals where he would instead rob them of merchandise at gunpoint.

The first robbery was reported Sunday and the second Wednesday. The combined value of the merchandise stolen in both cases was reported at more than $2,000.

Investigators said McCahill was performing these robberies a block away from his home.

His next court date is slated for July 17.
