Prosecutors: Woman sideswiped patrol vehicle, caused crash during chase

A Lake County woman is accused of sideswiping an Oak Brook police vehicle and crashing into another car Saturday while trying to escape officers investigating a theft from a Macy’s store, officials said.

Kayshanda Outlaw, 24, of the 1600 block of Lorelei Drive in Zion, is charged with burglary, retail theft and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, all felonies, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

She also faces several traffic citations, including driving without a license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, authorities said.

Asia Wallace, 32, of the same address, is charged with felony burglary and felony retail theft, prosecutors said.

Police said that, at 3:41 p.m. Saturday, officers were called for theft report at the Macy’s in Oakbrook Center. The two women are accused of taking more than $1,450 in children’s clothing without paying, officials said.

Police said when officers tried to block the defendants’ car from leaving the scene, Outlaw sideswiped a patrol vehicle then drove north on Route 83. She reached speeds of up to 90 mph before losing control of the vehicle at Butterfield Road and Prospect Avenue in Elmhurst and crashing into another car, authorities said.

The driver of that car suffered minor injuries, officials said.

Both women were released while their cases are pending; their next court dates are July 29.
