Leslie Goddard returns for Elgin Donor Club’s annual book review
The Elgin Donor Club, an active philanthropic club since 1913, recently announced their annual book review and luncheon. It will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Elgin Country Club, 2575 Weld Road.
Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., renowned historian, and author will present the 2020 memoir “Up in the Air: The Real Story of Life Aboard the World's Most Glamorous Airline” by Betty Riegel. She will explore the exciting, true story about the real-life stewardess for Pan Am during the golden age of air travel.
Learn about serving the rich and famous; about the strict height, weight and age requirements for stewardesses; about cooking gourmet meals; and enduring some wild rides.
To add to the fun, guests are encouraged to dress as though they were getting ready to board a Pan Am flight.
Tickets for the event are $60 and available though club members. You also may contact the club at Donorclubofelgin@gmail.com.
Additionally, raffle tickets will be sold at the event. Doors open at 11 a.m., with lunch being served at noon. Guests will be able to purchase cookies, breads, candy and gently used books.
All proceeds raised are donated to local charities that benefit area residents.
