Downtown Palatine Street Fest returns with music, food, games

Live music, food and drink are at the heart of the Downtown Palatine Street Fest, which takes place from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, Aug. 23; 11:30 a.m. to midnight Saturday, Aug. 24; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the intersection of Brockway and Slade streets, which is north of Palatine Road, between Plum Grove Road and Smith Street.

The Main Stage lineup includes Sixes & Sevens (5:30 p.m.), Tennessee Whiskey (7:30 p.m.) and Hairbangers Ball (10 p.m.) on Friday; Rememories (11:30 a.m.), The Divas (noon), The Album Covers (2:30 p.m.), Funky Monks (5 p.m.), ARRA (7:30 p.m.), and Mike & Joe (10 p.m.) on Saturday; and Blackberry Jam (noon), Fletcher Rockwell (2 p.m.), and Dancing Queen (4 p.m.) on Sunday.

Participating restaurants offering food at the fest will include: Annie’s Restaurant & Pancake House, Bendita Cocina Argentinian Restaurant, Chicago Culinary Kitchen, Daisy’s Ice Cream Shop, Emmett's Brewing Co., Finuccio & Sons Italian Deli & Catering, Mexico Uno Restaurant, Rep's Place, Salsa Street, Sweet C's, Tievoli Pizza Bar, and Tre Amici Pizza.

Beer and wine tents will offer adult beverages. New this year, the festival will not sell or require tickets to purchase alcohol. Those 21 and older can purchase drinks with a debit or credit card or cashless mobile payment. Food vendors may choose to accept cash.

The Backyard Lounge at Towne Square Park will become a space where families can hang during the day and adults can hang out in the evening. It will include shaded picnic tables, lounge chairs, string lights through the trees, a second bar, local eats, a selection of outdoor games such as bags, giant Jenga, ladder ball and bocce ball, and scheduled entertainment and demonstrations.

Highlights include the Cyclefest tour of Palatine, hosted by the Bike Club of Palatine, on Saturday (register at 8 a.m., ride begins at 9 a.m.); a police dog demo at noon Saturday; bingo at noon Saturday; face painting from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday; and kids’ crafts from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

According to festival organizers, the Sweet Pea Pet Parade, which had taken place in previous years, will not happen this year.

The Palatine Farmers Market will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the east Metra parking lot.
