New location for popular Mundelein Arts Festival

The 13th Mundelein Arts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and 8, at its new location: Courtland Commons in downtown Mundelein, at the northeast corner of East Courtland Street and Seymour Avenue.

This space allows for five additional booths for the juried show, which now features works from 50 specially selected artists of beautiful paintings, photography, pottery, wood furnishings, jewelry, fiber and other handmade items. Spend the day shopping while enjoying live music from local musicians. Admission and parking are free, and food is available for purchase.

“We’re pleased that the new location at the village’s Courtland Commons allows us to expand the number of booths to include more artists,” said Christa Lawrence, the festival’s founder and event chair. “We want to make sure people know of the new location since it was at Kracklauer Park for the last 12 years. Courtland Commons is just one block south of there!”

Artists will be in the paved area, which visitors will find easy to access.

Along with professional artists, the Mundelein Arts Festival includes a tent highlighting artwork by students from Mundelein High School and Carmel Catholic High School. With the help of Platinum Sponsors Mundelein McDonald’s and BCU, Silver Sponsor Mundelein Automotive and Bronze Sponsor Mundelein Community Bank, scholarship money will be awarded to students from each school. Scholarship recipients will be announced at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The festival will also include a free craft tent for children, courtesy of Goldfish Swim School and Tonality, where children can stop by to create scratch art. Food vendors Tamales Diana and Hay Botana will serve various food items for purchase. Local musicians will perform over the weekend, including Stankovic Music Learning Center, Old Enough to Know Better and Prairie Sky on Saturday; and Frank Bagot, Doug Blake and Mary Lai on Sunday.

The Mundelein Arts Festival, presented by Mundelein Community Connection and Mundelein Park & Recreation District, thanks the many sponsors and volunteers who make the festival possible.
