Third annual J & D Golf Outing to benefit children and family activities at Partners for Our Communities

Local nonprofit organization Partners for Our Communities (POC) will host its third annual J & D Charity Golf Outing on Friday, Sept. 20, at Palatine Hills Golf Course. This exciting event directly supports youth and teen programs, including after-school programs, camps and field trips.

In Fiscal Year 2024, POC provided 5,211 experiences for youth (5-13) with outreach, after-school programs, special events and summer camps.

POC provides a welcoming and supportive environment for junior high and high school students to engage in life skills education, hear from inspiring guest speakers and focus on personal growth and goal setting. Remarkably, 95% of teens feel more connected to their families and 98% exhibited increased prosocial behaviors — acts of kindness, sharing, cooperating and helping — after weekly group activities like field trips, community service projects, team building and leadership.

One such success story is that of Maria and her children, who participated in several of POC’s programs this past summer. The family took part in the new POC ROOTS Community Garden at Falcon Park, where Maria’s children learned about gardening alongside other families, volunteers and staff. They also stayed active through various ICOMPETE programs, including music and arts classes, soccer, swimming lessons and summer camp.

Maria expressed her gratitude to Kathy Millin, executive director of POC, stating that the programs were consistently high-quality, affordable and inclusive for the entire family. Maria’s story is just one example of how POC positively impacts families by providing quality activities that engage and educate children.

On Sept. 20, Partners for Our Communities will host its third annual Golf Outing at Palatine Hills Golf Course, with a 9 a.m. start time. The event will feature a grand prize raffle with eight prizes, each valued at over $350, and 30 raffle baskets, each with a $150 value. Golf tickets are $175. Grand Prize raffle tickets are $25 each for five tickets for $100.

What is ICompete & the Teen Program?

A program that introduces underserved families to arts, academics, and athletics by breaking down access barriers to better prepare for life experiences. The goal is to stimulate interest, provide academic support, and increase opportunities to participate in organized sports, clubs, or community programs. The following partners work together to provide ICompete to have partnered to develop this program: Partners for Our Communities, Palatine Park District, Palatine Township, Palatine Police Department, Palatine High School and Community Consolidated School District 15.

The Teen Program meets weekly to help high school students grow as leaders, build relationships with peers, create a voice to be heard, and make an impact in their community. Last year, this group hosted community events for over 18,000 client interactions.
