Police: Speed a possible factor in fatal motorcycle crash

Golf Police Department authorities are investigating a crash involving motorcycles early Friday morning that killed a Des Plaines man and injured another, police said.

“Preliminary findings showed that excessive speeds were a contributing factor to this tragic accident,” police said.

Officers responded to the crash that occurred in the 100 block of Golf Road, Golf, shortly after 1:30 a.m. Friday.

They found two downed motorcycles and two riders on the roadway with severe injuries.

Morton Grove and Niles fire department crews treated the victims but Joshua F. Peterson, 20, died at the scene, officials said.

The second motorcyclist, a 23-year-old Chicagoan, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with serious injuries.

A third biker was with the two men but not injured.

It’s believed the three motorcyclists knew each other from work, Golf Police Chief Dennis J. McEnerney said.

No other vehicles were involved.

Golf Road was closed between Harms and Waukegan roads for over four hours so authorities could investigate.

Assisting Golf emergency responders were Illinois State Police, the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, and police from Morton Grove, Skokie and Glenview.
