Weather plays havoc with several conference golf tournaments

Rain got the best of several conference golf tournaments Tuesday.

Both the DuKane Conference boys invite, held at Bartlett Hills, and the girls tourney, at Phillips Park, were postponed after a couple hours of play. Both tournaments will resume on Oct. 9.

At the boys tournament, the teams made it through six holes with Geneva leading at 6-over. Wheaton Warrenville South and Lake Park were four shots back. Five golfers were tied at 1-over par, including the Vikings’ Matt Trimble, Ryan O’Rourke and Blake Makowski.

At the girls tournament, Lake Park was 8-over through three holes; St. Charles North 9-over through four. The North Stars’ Abigail Gizewicz navigated the adverse conditions at even par through five holes for a 1-shot lead.

The West Suburban Conference Silver boys tournament, featuring several of the best teams in the state, also was suspended midway through the round. That one won't get completed or made up, and Glenbard West earned the conference title based on dual results.

One conference that was able to complete its tournaments was the Northern Lake County. Lakes won both the boys and girls tourneys.

The boys team shot a 309 at Pine Meadows Golf Club to win by 19 shots over Antioch. Grayslake Central finished third at 340.

Lakes sophomore Brady Cross fired a 3-under par 69 to win the individual title by 8 shots. Cross birdied two holes on the front nine and four on the back.

Teammate Henry Samulak was second with a 77. Antioch’s Rylan Frazer and Lakes’ Colin Deatherage shot 79s, and Grayslake Central’s Ian McGowan was fifth with an 80.

At Renwood Golf Course, the Lakes girls team shot a 374, 15 shots better than runner-up Grayslake Central. Grant totaled a 428 for third.

Lakes senior Maia Becker won the individual title at 86. Wauconda’s Reese Romer and Grayslake Central’s Bean followed at 92.
