Experience the terror of ‘The Reckoning’ haunted house in Downers Grove Oct. 18-19

Get ready for a terrifying journey through time with “The Reckoning” haunted house! On Oct. 18-19, visitors will step into a haunted house like no other, where the tragic story of a forgotten seaside town comes to life. Hosted by the Downers Grove Park District, the experience will take place at the historic Lincoln Center, 935 Maple Ave. in Downers Grove.

Presented by the Downers Grove Park District, “The Reckoning” brings to life the tragic story of a once-thriving seaside town near Charleston, South Carolina. Founded by Italian immigrants in 1902, the town was soon destroyed by a terrifying series of events. Experiments with a hunger-quelling injection turned nightmarish, leading to violent outbreaks and a deadly virus that left the town in ruins by 1910. Guests will witness six live-action scenes depicting these horrifying events.

As visitors await their turn, they’ll be immersed in the eerie atmosphere with themed props and decor in the lobby and waiting areas, setting the tone for the fright-filled journey to come.

Claire Kent, recreation supervisor, is thrilled to revive the haunted house event, last held at the Lincoln Center in 2016.

“I’m so excited to bring this event back to the Downers Grove community,” Kent said. “This is a great opportunity to give our patrons a unique, haunting experience. My hope is that this becomes a cherished annual tradition.”
